Hi Experts,
I need your guidance in one of the issue we are facing.
Basically we are managing the databases on ASM running on Oracle 10.2.0.4.
During the restoration process, we faced error:

ORA-15055: unable to connect to ASM instance
ORA-00020: maximum number of processes () exceeded
ORA-15055: unable to connect to ASM instance
ORA-00020: maximum number of processes () exceede
channel aux3: starting datafile backupset restore

We are trying to restore the database by allocating 12 channels during rman restoration. And this error usually coming during restoration process.
The value of the SESSIONS parameter is 49 and PROCESSES 40.
The ASM instance is in nomount state, so can not debug more.

We already faced on one of the development box. Which is resolved by increasing the value of SESSIONS and PROCESSES parameter on ASM instance.
Just want to know is there any other solution apart increasing these parameters and bouncing the databases.

Regards
Lalit

The other solution than restarting the ASm instance is to shutdown some of the instances that use ASM.

Thanks Michel for the quick reply.
But we can not shutdown any of the database for long time(time require to restore/refresh the database is nearly 1 hr). We already gave a thought on this Sad
I guess the only option now is to bounce the ASM and other dbs.

Lalit

You should increase the processes parameter in the ASM parameter file.

I think if OP said "Which is resolved by increasing the value of SESSIONS and PROCESSES parameter on ASM instance" he knows he can increase the parameter, don't you think?
