I am taking cold backup once a week (tar). I would like to backup archived redo logs every night (database is online) with net backup. Is this possible? Can I do recovery with cold backup from last week and all archived redo logs to failure?

You better start backup those archived logs immediately. You will not be able to recover fully from the last cold backup unless you have all necessary archived logs available.

If you are using 8i, then there are tons of scripts available for hot backup. Then NetBackup agent is integrated with RMAN, so you can start doing hot backup on tapes directly, and minimize your down time.

If you need RMAN scipts check Here. It has tons of scripts and tips how to do that.

Hope that helps,

Thanks for your help.
Do I need to stop the listener while I am doing cold backup?
