Is it a best practice to maintain a seperate Oracle_Home for each of the databases in an organization.
We have close to 500 databases ,some of them a decade old ,when mutliple 9i databases shared same binaries .So is the case with 10g and now with 11g

I want to know whats a best practice when it comes to installing Oracle_Homes across enterprises?

No, only one per version (including patch level) you need.
