I had a text item reference no and a lov button for it.
The source columns and return columns are of the the same datatype.
The column width are the same except for one item.
The LOV button works fine but when I save the form, the LOV button is displayed again
and I need to select a value from the LOV to proceed.
As suggested in some postings, the 'Validate from List' should be changed to 'No'.
I tried that and it worked but I need to validate the value entered so that the only
valid values are entered.

Can anyone suggest me a solution? Thanks...

Solution to what? Either select a valid value from a LoV (or enter it manually) if "Validate from list" is set to "Yes" so that Save works, or - if that property is set to "No" - let users save invalid values.

Alternatively, you could create a WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM trigger which wouldn't let you save invalid values, but that's what "Validate from list" does anyway.
