Hi,

Not quite sure what you are referring to: the "Cost Based Optimizer" or "Function Based Indexes"? Or, are you referring to how the Cost Based Optimizer will use/select Indexes?

Best regards.

Hi,

I mean how the cost based optimizer works and on what basis it decides to select a particular index. And also, is it required to update the statistics of cost calculation, If so at what interval?

Regards,
Roanld.

Hi,

This is too much info for a simple reply. Best is to read the "Oracle Database Performance Tuning Guide and Reference". In particular, read chapter 1: Introduction to the Optimizer.

Best regards.
