Hi,

I am the new DBA for an existing, almost ready for production, database on UNIX.
As a good DBA I want to set up the backup and recovery process, so I first wanted to see what's already done.

In the catalog v$session_longops I see some occurrences of:
RMAN: full datafile backup
RMAN: incremantal datafile backup
etc.

So it seems RMAN gets started at specific times.

But I can't find how it is started (no crontab jobs), where the backup scripts are (what is backuped), where the backups are stored.

When I do a 'list backup' in rman, I get no response; it seems like the program hangs.
A 'list copy' only gives me the archived log copies.

Are there any other ways to find out if there are backups and where to find them (in good old Ingres there is a command infodb, which gives the current checkpoints (backups) and journals (redo log files), I'm looking for something similar).

Thanks,

Wiebe.
