I have not tried this but you can catch such built-in exception to surpress it.
For instance, in forms, you use on-message to surprise built-in message by saying:
if msgnum == whatever forms built-in error message number, then
null or your own customized message.
I have not looked into how this is done in reports.
If I find it, I will let you know but I know it is there.
