recover password from file [message #126205]

Hi all!
I probably have to restore my orcale password's file deleting orapw (lost sys/system password)...
so I would know if it's possible to recover usernames/passwords reading that file after deleting an setting up new sys password.

Can you help me?

hi,

Only Sysdba and Sysoper password are stored in password file and the rest username/passwords are stored in Oracle itself. So u jst delete the old file and create a new one using ORADIM utility and then u would be able to access the database.

orapwd does it outside of oradim, but oradim will also do it when you specify the "-intpwd" parameter. So, if you already have a service and just want to re-create the password file, use orapwd. There is also no harm in re-creating the service (along with the password file) either.

-INTPWD password is the password for the new instance. This is the password for the user logged in with SYSDBA privileges. Option -INTPWD is not required. If you do not specify it, then operating system authentication is used, and no password is required.
