Hello,
I want to extract/restore a single datafile to an external location. The datafile, present in the RMAN backupset, should be extracted using set until and set newname, I suppose, to reflect the point in time to which the file should be relevant.

Is it possible to do this, to extract the file to /tmp, without touching the live and active file in the database?
I can live with setting the active and current file offline for whatever time is needed, should it come to that.

Regards,
/Dennis

Oh yes, it is possible.

However, for safety reasons, it would be better to do it on a different (non-prod) system.
