Hi All,

I am using oracle 9.2 on Linux. I was configuring some third party backup tool.It is running fine but According to customers requirement they want to integrate RMAN with this tool. But when i am writing RMAN from prompt it gets hang means RMAN is not running. when i am writing
$rman target system/manager
it is giving error
Cant open Target.
I have set all envoirement variable. Still not working
I fired a command ln -s with some lib file.May that is a problem

what could be the problem.. Guide me......
Can we take direct backup to tape drive without any third party tool with RMAN if yes how??????
Thanks in advance.........

No. You need some MML API. Else RMAN cannot directly write to Tape.

Luckily, Oracle released Oracle Secure Backup Express which obviates the need for a third-party MML. It's free to use when used to protect one server to one attached tape drive.

The MML you are using should provide install instructions for integrating with RMAN.

Verify which rman executable you are using by running 'which rman', ensure that you are using the one in your ORACLE_HOME. Linux itself has an rman executable. Try to run $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman instead.
