There's no attachment in your message.

Are you trying to run SQL*Plus by selecting its icon? If so, and in order to help us help you, try to enter SQL*Plus from the command prompt of your operating system.

It *should* not close and vanish without a trace. So, when (if) you get it, post the whole output here.

Actually I am facing the same problem.

But if you connect from the forms rather than the pl/sql you might get one of the following errors, either two way fatal communication error, or connect failed because target host or object does not exist.

From what I found on metalink if you search for 6i and XE that the most probable reason is that XE default character set is AL32UTF8 and Developer 6i does not support that.

I tried changing the XE database character set but with no Use, it always gives me the error, the character set must be a subset of the original character set.

Someone suggested downloading the European version of XE that I believe will have the Character set that Developer 6i will support but unfortunately i want to be able to store arabic in my database.

So if someone finds a solution to changing the XE character set to AR8MSWIN1256 please let me know.

Regards,

Sameh.

Search for this problem in the Forms forum by looking for 'tnsnames.ora'.

It is probably due to having two or more copies of 'tnsnames.ora' on your PC and they contain different information.
