Hi,

There is a new built windows 2003 server , I have to install oracle & transfer the database files from the old server and startup the database. For that I have to transfer all the files between the 2 remote windows servers. I tried winscp drag & drop to transfer the files from the old server to the new server using the remote connection. I am not able to do it. Is there any other way I could use to transfer the files???

Hi,

Ftp is taking tooo long to transfer...

I just mapped the drives and transferred..

I have another question.. After starting up the database in the new server, the users want me to rename the old database in the old server to a different database name. To rename the database name, will it be fine if I just change the db name in the init file and start the database? Do I have to recreate the control file?? Database version is 9.2.0.5

Hi,

For rename database you have to USE DBNEWID utility instead of recreate controlfile (manually)

PS: Before doing anything if it is PRODUCTION DATABASE please take RECOVERABLE DATABASE BACKUP.

You could have a look at the DBNEWID Utility. I have never used it thou.
Read the documenation from Oracle as well , before you try it out.

Slow ftp ? It's has nothing to do with the ftp.. more likely your network speed/configuration

Hi,
is it necessary to change the dbid as well??
It is depends on you.

When you clone database on some machine that time you have to change DBID for RMAN utility otherwise no need.
