Hi I'm a newbie in oracle and I just wanted to try out some pl/sql database commands in my own computer, which has windows XP professional. I downloaded Pl/sql developer and instant client basic (v10.2.0.3) and then proceeded to set the Oracle Field to F:\instantclient_10_2 and OCI library field to F:\instantclient_10_2 in Pl/sql developer.

Now when I tried connecting, to Pl/sql developer, I keep getting a message "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified". Based on some research I"ve noted that some files like "mfc71.dll", "msvcr71.dll", "tnsnames.ora", "sqlnet.ora" were needed. Additonally evironmental variables were needed to be set accordingly. However those files were never found in my instantclient folder so I couldn't do anything.
This is what I've known far. I need someone's help to continue from this point on or a link to an appropriate guide.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

This tool expects you to have an available Oracle database (which you, obviously, do not have). Therefore, download and install a database (Oracle 10g Express Edition would be a perfect choice for you), and - once you do that - try to connect again.
