Hi Gurus,

Our hardware is a unix shared box running different applications which has its own Oracle 9i database instances (each has its own oracle home directory under the single "/oracle" base directory).

However, my boss wanted me to execute "in-place" upgrade on one instance to Oracle 10g without affecting the other existing (oracle 9i) instances. Is this possible? from what i know, during the process of (oracle 10g) upgrade, it creates binary files in the "/oracle" base directory and i am afraid it would affect and overwrite files on the other oracle 9i instances and there might be some conflict.

Any feedback and help is very much appreciated.

Thank You.

Install the binaries in a new directory and only upgrade the database you want.
Both options are asked during installation phase.
